I see this as a Gamecube gen waiting to happen....when even Mario Kart Double Dash couldn't save it.

the gamecube had some great games though,   Eternal Darkness is still one of my Favorite games of all time.  IMO nintendo should drop the price of the wiiU to 100$ and drop the tablet as a included device, but this is my own opinion i dont like using the tablet to play games, its just big, its a cool idea but its just too damn big for me and my wife to use all the time, also it eats up batteries like theres no tomarrow.  seems to always need charging

No offence, but even if you hate the gamepad, you should be able to see this is a horrible idea. It would split the userbase. Support for the gamepad would drop due to it no longer being included with the console, leading to alienating earlier adopters. The console was designed from the start with low latency streaming to the gamepad in mind. It would be a complete waste of resources (both current manufacturing and previous research and development) to start producing gamepad-less consoles.

With the situation the Wii U is currently in: shifting momentum and confusion over the difference between the Wii and the Wii U, a modification on this scale would be disastrous.

The gamepad is a solid idea, even Microsoft and Sony think so, or they wouldn't be making their own versions. That said, you can use a wiimote or pro-controller if you want. There's an official extended life battery, and you can always play with the gamepad plugged in for longer sessions.

The best bet is to push out more quality games, try and win over more third party support, and get the awareness of the product out there.
