I can only roll my eyes at nonsense like this.

So you think Nintendo can ship over 55m hardware items in one year again?

....and you think Playstation can beat 37m hardware shipments in one year this gen?

If you want to include handhelds into the equation then I suggest you look for a planet that doesn't have ipads, iphones and fancy gadgets that pretty much replace those handheld consoles 1-to-1.

If someone suggests that the home console market is shrinking right after 2 consoles launched and broke all records before them then I'd have to wager that such a person needs to re-evaluate his statistical analysis methods.

We shall see.  I'd wager this gen is the most front loaded ever due to the length of it and the hype available from internet sources and the like.  But I may be wrong.

But the op was talking about home and handheld.

"But the op was talking about home and handheld."

I know that, but I think everyone ignores it because it's just a little ridiculous to do that.

The economic-enthusiast climate has certainly changed a lot - to the point where common people here in South Africa know that the PS4 is coming out in a few days. Those same people wouldn't have had a clue tha the PSOne, Saturn and N64 were part of the same gen. So for sure: Electronics do sell through a lot more at launch because of factors you mentioned.

But I think you are likely to be proven wrong. I *think* so.
