I think IMO Conservatives will always be pissed off, because in the long run generally they always end up "losing", because time marches on and progress happens and that progress is generally what they oppose almost all the time.

In the 60s people despaired when JFK/RFK/Martin Luther King were assassinated, but in the long term, civil rights prevailed, cooler heads prevailed with regards to nuclear war, and we live today in a much more progressive, inclusive, open society with more opportunities for all people and women as well of course.

The conservatives of the 60s "lost" the culture war, and they'll lose it in the future too. Gay marriage will happen, we'll have a Latino president probably soon, etc. etc. etc.

The future simply doesn't favor hanging on to the past. The "gubbermint spends my money!!!" guy will always be pissed off too because taxes are never going away and deficets run up no matter who the president is. There's simply no such thing as "small government" when you're talking about a country of 300+ million people, the largest military on the planet, the largest economy on the planet, etc. etc. That's just a pipe dream on paper.
