Nintendo I think has decided internally to stick to their roots as a toy/kids-brand company and to not compete with Sony/MS as much as they can get away with.
I think even Iwata said they're not very good at competing in a head to head way.
They're just not capable of being the company that some people want them to be.
That said I think DKC: TF will probably be a terrific game and (yes) the inclusion of Cranky Kong is cool for DKC fans.
