3DS versions of MH have barely reached half of what the PSP games sold.  3million versus 6million.

Large userbase doesn't equal fanbase in this case. Just because its available to more ppl doesn't mean the fanbase is also included in that. Remember PSP userbase was also dwarfed by DS's but MonHun found success there when they didn't on consoles(even larger install base).

MonHun on 3DS might appear to be more profitable in the short term, but I doubt it in the long. Capcom has probably opted for NIN exclusivity due to A. Moneyhat and B. Allows them to reuse old assets. Barring the moneyhatt funds, Capcom stood to make the same amount of sales on Vita with the potential to be greater because PSP/Vita fanbase overlaps at about 90%. Crapcom could have just as easily reused assets on Vita too. Attach rate on Vita games is also big right now.

Firstly, your figures are wrong. 3DS MonHun has currently done 4 Million for Capcom while the highest selling PSP title, using data we have available, is sat at 5.4 Million and not the 6 Million you stated.

Capcom have shipped/sold 4 Million copies of MH4 on 3DS in Japan alone and a 2 Year old port of MH Tri sold 2.3 Million units worldwide. Thats 6.3 Million copies of MonHun on 3DS sold in ~3 Years, with MH4 yet to release in the West.

If youre talking about the West, then the last MonHun game on a non-Nintendo platform was released in 2008. Since then the MonHun games have been on Wii, 3DS and Wii U over here. Basically, the MonHun fanbase is on Nintendo platforms right now with 3DS being the primary platform.

They dont need the Vita. When they do eventually release a MH title on the system, it will be more for them to milk what they can out of the system than giving it anything meaningful. See how they dealt with the franchise on PS3.
