Given what I expected from a Paper Mario game, I wasn't disappointed. It could have been better, but it had most of what I wanted in there. I would say the people who think the game is bad only think so because they thought that all Paper Mario should be is an RPG with an "open world" and a stronger emphasis on story and having partners.
While I'm not against any of those things, that isn't what I felt was the essence of Paper Mario. Paper Mario is more about the environment than anything else, and that aspect is arguably stronger in Sticker Star than any of the other Paper Mario games.
