Almost every freakin' firmware update Sony sends out to its PSP's is to try to stop hackers from breaking into the firmware. They have even switched the circuit board twice. They employ Microsoft's Halo 2 tactic where a game will not boot unless you've installed the latest firmware, even though that required firmware has nothing to do with running that particular game. Piracy on the PSP is a big deal...big enough for Sony to keep throwing money away trying to fight it.
