Personally I'd love to play a female Link. And in my boredom I came up with a nice story for how it could work in game...

Game begins with female 'Link' ~20 years old being trained by guy in his 50s/60s. The world is a wasteland and it becomes apparent that Ganondorf defeated the Hero and took over the Kingdom of Hyrule ~20 years previously.

(Do you see where this is going)

After a few dungeons, Link gets sent back to the war with Ganon to help out. AND.... it's Zelda!

The old guy at the start is actually Link, who rescued Zelda as a baby, knowing that his triforce of courage needed to work with her triforce of wisdom in order to defeat Ganon and save the world.

Zelda then has the classic LOZ game where she goes to temples/dungeons to collect the magical shinies needed to give Link (who is general in the army fighting against Ganons forces; how cool would epic fantasy battles be going on in the background on Hyrule Field whilst you're racing to deliver medicine to some old bint?). They work together to rescue the past, before Zelda has to return to the future in order to defeat Ganon there, rescuing her own timeline.

Eiji, if you read this and want to use my story, 10% royalties; sales, not profit ;)

I do hope that Nintendo goes EPIC with Zelda U.

It needs to be dark, intense and cinematic to give the Wii U what it needs.
