Ya I could see myself having that issue if you play with 4 fingers up top. I only my index fingers and that's really a blessing here because I've found that by far the easiest, most comfortable way to push the bumpers on this one is when your index is resting on the trigger to just slightly pressure the middle of your finger inwards, because at that angle it's already touching the very edge of the bumper, which is also where it's easiest to push down.
It takes a little getting used to coming off 360 where I would take my finger of the trigger and push down on the whole bumper button.
Love the controller though. Feels great in my hands. The triggers are better, the sticks are better, the D-Pad is better, and they seem to have found a sweet spot for the weight, which is considerably lighter than a 360 controller, but not as light as a PS3 controller.
