RE4Wii doesn't have "tank" control. Tank control is that you push up to move forward in the direction the character is looking and left/right to turn the character (really annoying in the earlier RE's, but it added a lot to the tension.
ROFL. What you just described is exactly how the controls work in RE4! You push up on the analog stick to move forward, and left/right to turn the character. Precisely right.
Surprisingly many people thought that RE4 has different controls than previous titles of the series. But all that has really changed is the ability to freely aim at the enemies with the analog stick. Movement, run button, quick turn, menu, button to get the gun ready, still the same.

I blame the change of the camera view!
In all seriousness, though, Entroper misunderstands what "tank controls" are, no doubt because the truth is too horrible to imagine for someone who has not experienced them.

1. The "up" controller direction is not up on the screen, it is forward from the perspective of the character.
2. "left" and "right" rotate the character.
3. You cannot move and rotate the character at the same time.

You can imagine why those of us who suffered through these controls to gain access to the otherwise wonderfully atmospheric game reckon RE4 a monumental advance in control scheme.

The controls of the previous RE games didn't bother me, the controls worked very well for the game due to the preset and changing camera perspectives within each room. However, I understand that many people didn't like the "tank controls".

It's not that I didn't like them, I just can't count the number of times I died because the controls stopped me from getting away quickly. But hey, REmake is still the best RE, and one of the best games ever, despite this issue.

Oh and entroper: RE4 does NOT have tank controls (final fan explained it better than I did). All the reviews of RE4 praised the fact that Capcom finally got rid of that.
