I was thinking of it as more of a model akin the iPad model ... most apps still work on the iPad 3rd generation onwards or whatever. Sure there may be some apps that run better or only on the newer iPad model, but does that really bother old iPad users? Not really I don't think. And there are plenty of new apps that work on all iPad models. I think the important thing would be that Nintendo's own games work on both models without any issue. Because right now, third parties are going to abandon the Wii U. It's coming, we might as well accept it, the numbers and sales data is that bad. I don't think Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or any further Batman games are coming to the Wii U next year, I think even Sega may bail out of that Sonic deal, as even Sonic can't sell on this thing and developers are already grumbling about how many systems they have to work on, Wii U is clearly looking like the odd man out. I think 8 months from now the Wii U is going to be basically a Nintendo only box with a few licensed kids property games and the annual edition of Just Dance as the only visible third party support. |
I get what you mean, the problem is this isn`t the mobile business.
People may not have a problem switching cellphones every two years or so because the market is enormous. Console market isn`t.
not to forget that many cellphones, especially in the US, have plans where they can get a new cellphone cheaper. Consoles don`t have that plan. MS tried it on the biggest market and it didn`t succeed - because if it did sales would have been higher, given the 99$ entry price.
It`s two different markets that work on different paradigms.
I know that Wii U´s sales are low on 3rd party SW but you need to keep in mind that the most recent 3rd party hit titles like you mentioned and even Deus EX, Splinter Cell aren`t being ordered by a lot of stores.
Just yesterday i read a post the implied that the overall majority of Target shops didn`t order one or more of the big titles.
Wii U might not have come out of the gates as a plattform for 3rd party games but they had enough userbase to justify the same sales or a little higher.
When shops don`t order, games don`t sell.
Developers also know this.
Even Wii U`s are being reported to be sold out, but some say they don`t come in big numbers. And this is since September.
