Tablet and smartphone have definitely impacted the business (see Wii U and Vita completely decimated). 

The PS4/XB1 are equipped to weather the storm because they are built for the living room experience -- that's the type of experience you want on a 50 inch screen, on your couch, with all the bells and whistles. 

What's happening is the middle tier games and platforms that are trying to appeal to the middle/lower end are getting squeezed. 

Consoles are for the big budget games that consumers want, tablets/smartphone gaming is still a part of their gaming diet too .... just with more of a focus on pick up and play/time wasting games that are cheap. 

Wii u and Vita sale are decimal is because of the lack of third party support it has nothing to do, casual don't buy wii u  becuase they are happy with their wii.
