To be fair most the Wii U ports where months to a year late so your comparing apples and oranges.
Also the next gen "late port" which was actually sold before the console come out anyway, is a significant upgrade to PS3, so it is only natural that people would pick that up instead of something on their last gen console.
COD was killed on Nintendo systems the moment Modern Warfare come out and skipped the system, buy then (me included) went and got a PS3 to play COD games.
In the end its a combination of poor development (look at the new batman compared to the LATE port as an example) and stubborn Nintendo fans dismissing all 3rd party games.
