with the XBOX ONE targeting the same audience, games very similar, services pretty close to each other, and the fans really close to their companies with this "self-created" console war, that is a hard thing to do. At least 3DS is almost alone in the bussiness, while DS was with the PSP selling 80 millions and more units. 

I think Nintendo would dearly love to go back to competing vs. the PSP than deal with the overall market eroding impact of smart devices. 

Even if the 3DS sells a decent amount of hardware (which Nintendo is being forced to work harder to sell than ever before), the software sales are really down if you actually look at their financial statements. 

Kids getting used to $1 games is poisioning the well.
