Sony's audience -- the hardcore gamer is still there, and Sony was smart enough to make a straight forward next-gen machine and sell it at a resonable price. They're being rewarded for making smart moves during the development of the system. Nintendo decided to do their own thing again but have been abandoned by the casual audience that drove the Wii to its huge success, and by also alienating the core gamer last gen, they're finding that the hangover from the Wii era is looking real rough. |
To be honest, I don't think the market is so simple. To a certain degree you will be able to predict how they will act. However, I don't think anyone here truly knows the market well enough to know how this really will end up. Most people go by the people they see around them and judge how the market is based off of that, but there's much more to it than that. There are many people we don't see, as well as many factors unseen. Nintendo tends to hide their hand until it's almost time to release said hand. Whether or not that will help at all is yet to be seen, and while I agree that your last statement has some truth to it, I can't say that it's the actual reason for what's going on.
