Nintendo lost the core market when they released a current gen system as their next gen one.


Yeah this was the first thing I thought when the Project: Cafe (Wii U rumors) started leaking, I thought "please Nintendo don't be dumb enough to launch another PS3/360 level console, the market for that is completely saturated unless you have a miracle controller under your sleeves again".

Casuals have betrayed Nintendo for $1 games and there was way too much of a focus on overly cartoony games too IMO. Mario is fine, but Nintendo Land, Rayman, Sonic, LEGO City, etc. gave the impression of a console for kids, which is something not even kids want once they get to about age 11. 

They needed to have a GoldenEye a realistic Zelda or worst-case, even a Metroid Prime in the console's first year to go with Mario.
