If it had been a Wii U exclusive like it should have been, that would have given a hell of a lot of folks who don't yet own one to go out and finally buy one. If you want to push consoles and improve the prostpects of your next gen system, a "MUST HAVE EXCLUSIVE" like a Smash Bros. or a Mario Kart is sure as hell the way to do that. So sure, they have a ready-made instal base who will no doubt buy the shit out of SB on 3DS. You're right about that. But is it really worth doing so at the expense of what could have been a hell of a lot more Wii U sales? Like I've said in the past, if they REALLY wanted to try out SB on a portable, it would have been a hell of a lot smarter to just focus on the development of this Wii U game, and then AFTER it's done, start developing a different, exclusive SB for down the line on 3DS. That way, they could have the maximum sales impact of a hot "AAA" exclusive on Wii U, and THEN still be assured of also selling a crap-ton of the other, seperate SB game later on 3DS. More sales and more money made by them, all around, and it certainly strikes me that it would have been the smartest way to go. |
I highly agree. Making Smash for both the Wii U and 3DS is going to be detremental to Wii U sales. I'm expecting that the combined sales to behigher than Brawl but the Wii U version will be below Melee.
While I don't think that there is going to be a problem with file sizes, I believe that some content had to be cut out because of the hardware limitations of the 3DS. Not to mention that the resources spent on the 3DS version culd have been spent on the Wii U version.
