Firstly, the Nintendolife comment was partly tongue in cheek. I love the site and the writers do a great job, but I'm sure you can agree you get the odd nutty commenter around there.
Secondly, why would third parties care? Which third parties would care? I'm shamelessly stealing this from Neogaf, but it sums up the third party situation pretty grimly... Watchdogs is the ONLY major third party game coming to the Wii U.
Konami in 2014: Castlevania LoS2 (not on Wii U), MGS Ground Zeroes (not on Wii U)
Ubisoft in 2014: Watch_Dogs (COMING TO WII U!), AC:L HD (not on Wii U), South Park (not on Wii U), The Crew (not on Wii U), The Division (not on Wii U),
Namco in 2014: Dark Souls 2 (not on Wii U), Xillia 2 (not on Wii U)
Square Enix in 2014: Lightning Returns (not on Wii U), Thief (not on Wii U), Murdered Soul Suspect (not on Wii U) You can add FFXV and KHIII onto that.
EA: Titanfall (not on Wii U), Dragon Age III (not on Wii U), UFC (not on Wii U), PvZ Garden Warfare (not on Wii U)
WB: LOTR (not on Wii U), Dying Light (not on Wii U), Mad Max (not on Wii U)
Bethesda: ESO (not on Wii U), Wolfenstein (not on Wii U), The Evil Within (not on Wii U)
Nothing from Capcom, Deep Silver or Take two either.
Sega have a third paid for exclusive coming but they won't care as they've already got their money. Activision is the only third party who hasn't distanced themselves from Nintendo, but that will change after the abysmal COD and Skylander sales.
I agree dropping support for Wii U now would be a disaster. But I think becoming irrelevant and losing all market share in the home console space would be a far longer term disaster.
