I honestly feel that VVVVVV, despite, and becuase of, its brevity, is the Portal of Indie platformers. It had one amazing new idea for a game mechanic, built a game around it, and made was neither too short to explore the mechanic nor too long as to overuse it. Plus, it has a great soundtrack.
