I want their gimmicks to be optional and not forced, kinda like the 2DS in a way.  I think the gamepad feels comfortable and all but every time I look down at the screen I have to stop and I lose my focus in the game.

As far as i am concerned there is no such thing as a Nintendo gimmick.

Sony and Microsoft have gimmicks  e.g. DVD/Bluray support  in a game console.  Thats irrelevant for any game.     Neither Move Kinect or the Wii Balance board are gimmicks. And stuff that is there day1 is especially not a gimmick.

I mean if  2 Screens, Motion, 3D, or a tablet controller are a gimmick  so are  a DPAD, select+start, 4 action buttons, shoulder buttons, rumble, analog sticks, and being able to save your progress (Zelda NES battery = "memory card").

How come noone says those are gimmicks? Because they were invented in a time were real developers made games for real gamers  and  not mainstream devs making mainstream games for wanabe gamers (mainstreamers).  Innovation was accepted and thank god copied. Today change is not cool and only "cool" people play games today therefore change only occurs outside the mainstream market.

Btw  what game makes you lose your focus? Its not that you are forced to look at a gamepad that is glued to your floor or anything. You can always pause the game. You can also move your hands into your view so there is no need to move your eyes at all. (people constantly watch TV and play handhelds at the same time or walk around while using their smartphone so why would the gamepad be a problem?)
