Yes, there is a point, consoles are sold based not only on what is coming very soon, but on the promise of what may come in the future. Tell me how much people will buy a PS4 and Xbox One because the next kingdom heart will be available who knows when?, same thing applies for Final Fantasy XV, hell some bought their PS3 just because FF versus XIII was coming (and it never did). You don't sell based only on current games, you also sell based on a bright future (and hype) and Nintendo needs to sell as much as possible consoles to get support from third parties. |
Nintendo fucked themselves from total third party support for sure because they never consulted with third parties about their specs. They might get some but they even if they did increase their console sales on principle certain devs wouldn't because they laid it out in 2011-2012 that they wanted increased specs (obviously to Sony and Microsoft because they are the only two who will listen).
