1) It dilutes the conversation/Removes focus I like to think of threads almost as serving a lasting transcript. You can read it years later and depending on how good the thread/discussion was, really get something out of it. Tell me, years later, will someone be able to read through the entire thread and learn something from it? Given that there's not even a single topic? 2) It just becomes filled with trivial conversations. Like you said, people just banter and joke around in that thread. Also, by the same people too. Your giant threads become a place where a small minority who sticked with the thread from start to finish to make inside jokes and have random chit chat. I believe that chatrooms are lot more useful medium than threads for that kind of thing. 3) They clog up the forum. It's not really that a single giant thread is a problem, but that multiple giant threads that last forever are problems. They clog up the forum, either by being bumped up constantly or being stickied. Again, going back to point 1, it makes a lot more sense to have threads centered around a specific topic. As for my contributions, it's that I try and learn from mistakes. I've made bad threads and posts in the past, and I still do. But that's why I try to excercise self restraint and be critical about myself. I think your spelling and grammar mistakes are symptomatic of the problems I find in you. You need to slow down. I really don't mean that as an insult. It's a tough lesson I've learned years ago, and still am learning (hell, I still make lots of mistakes and re-edit my posts constantly). Take your time when writing your post and try to improve them as much as you can before posting that submit button. |
Will try to keep this short. The bold point I find pretty daunting when it comes to the 10k+ reply threads, where are new people meant to jump in on that and say "hey I love xbox too, does that mean that by posting here I must not post about ps?" and the underlined is even more to the point a lot of these Xbox fans only/ps fans only and Nintendomination threads appear to mostly just be a place where the biggest offenders of this "eye for an eye" attitude that you want dropped dwell. People come to vgchartz, spend a while posting 100% happy news for one company then leave that and take a look in another thread where people are talking about a specific game and are suddenly shocked to find opinions differing from their own.
As for you claiming that Akvod has less of a say on anything based on them not having contributed and started off the biggest longest threads here on vgchartz? I would love to see where in the rules and regulations of this forums that rule has come into play and moreso how someone has appointed themselve the judge, Jury and executioner of someone not contributing enough. A sad day when someone thinks they have the right to tell someone else they're not worthy enough to post.
