The one controller i saw was covered in dust/sweat... I think if you are playing for many hours and are sweating all over it and digging in your nails.. yeah i can see why that would be a problem.
Of course it would be better if they used more solid material, as i remember some of the early Xbox Controllers having a similar problem (where you could pick off the rubber off the stick.
