To true then again I remember lots of games on Amiga etc where like that , it wasn't just specific to one platform.
How many times over the subsiquent years have we heard developers say , we have to make our games newbie friendly while retaining our core game play , only to see that become the lowest common denominator , rather than games that scaled themselves to the user , another thing that contributed to less challenging games is popular genres like shootemups , that prided themselves on their hardness and skill factor and their lose of popularity , has gaming 's demographics widened.
