Nintendo Needs a New Franchise for Wii U

From what I understand, hasn't Nintendo said multiple times that they're making a new franchise? This will most likely be something that ends up on the Wii U.

I do believe that they need to cover areas that they don't already though. Action, FPS, and more older demographics-oriented games to broaden their fanbase and increase their overall variety.
