Each Nintendo console except GameCube advanced the interface.
NES - added the d-pad and revolutionized videogame genres and interface.
SNES - Added shoulder buttons and diamond face buttons, and chips like the FX chip, AGAIN revolutionizing.
N64 - Added an analog stick and advanced heavily into the realm of free roaming 3D.
Wii - Added motion controls allowing for the thriving of new genre types.
Wii U - Added full touchscreen again advancing the interface.
Gamecube - Took away the diamond face buttons (for no reason at all) thus screwing genres that thrived on it (such as 2D fighters), shrunk the d-pad to child-size, and added a lunchbox handle so kids could carry it to their friend's houses more easily. It also heavily mimicked the PS2, but lacked features and appeal, and had a more child friendly design. This is why I don't see it in the vein of typical Nintendo home consoles.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
