The movie had such a preachy end, and put such a [edit: nail in the coffin] of the human expedition ("went back to their dying planet") that I don't know how they will justify sequels involving human re-invasion. Surely re-establishing a foothold is harder than simply maintaining one, and they didn't manage that. That's aside from the heavy implication in the first movie that they were gone for good.
I didn't like that aspect of the movie to begin with, but instead of feeling vindicated by the sequels ignoring it I just feel annoyed.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
