Considering HD-DVD camp sold 1.1 million HD-DVD players (including add-on and computer drive) in the expand of 2 years. I really don't see that many people out there buying PS3 just for movie playback.
My experience at work (I work at Bestbuy) tells me that when you mention PS3 also plays blu-ray, people get tempted. They won't buy right away, but it's definitely something that might play into a factor.
