Opinion changes depending on who is in first. If you go back to when PS3 was last for so long. it was completely fake made up numbers that nobody should take seriously and should be banned from certain sites. Fast forward to PS3 sales increasing and any time its 1st its the most credible source on the planet.

I think if PS4 has issues after launch and isnt in first or second, it will go back to being complete BS to some people on other sites that now consider it valid.

if you were around those years you would know that VGC consistantly undertracked the Ps3 and after every financial report there would be massive adjustments. There was a reason for what you say happened
