In Japan, Pokemon X/Y sold 2,096,000 over 2 days along with 242,780 3DS systems according to Famitsu. http://s.famitsu.com/news/201310/16041735.html

Great numbers. It seems that the game sold well over the 4 million told by Nintendo. No way it sold less than 2 million in Americas and 1 million in Europe

How can it sell more than what Nintendo shipped?

We don´t know shipment numbers. And in the PR from NOA they said it sold over 4 million units in retail.

Also about Europe:

Data from Europe primarily covers Saturday, Oct. 12, as the great majority of retail outlets are closed on Sundays across Europe

How do you know it's not shipped? And it does include digital sales.

@Boutros It's sold, it includes Nintendo's reliable data from retail. Definitely not shipped. Also their data does not include "others".

@Rogerio It definitely didn't sell more. Nintendo get pretty reliable data from their retail sources. Moreover, even B/W didn't do 2m and 1m in US & EU respectively. It definitely sold a lot less due to its not so impressive user base in the West. It will have pushed a lot of 3DS's though that's for sure! I think it's around 1 million for US and 600k in Europe. Realy depends on how many download sales it got from Japan. Edit: The sales actually include the download cards sold at retail, so it looks like it did more than 1m in the US (2m shared between NA and EU). Impressive.

Also compared to previous Pokemon games those sales are quite good since they were forced to release later in the week with respect to previous iterations due to the simultaneous global launch.
