If this is what it seems like it is, I think he's in the right and that there is no reason to defend R*.
Especially since it's an insult to be offered such a little amount. It is not only offending to the artist as R* thinks his songs are only worth that much, it is also offending in the fact that R* has made so much money and they can't even offer something more reasonable?
