Sony are building a new network infrastructure. Dave Perry in the Febuary reveal stated that Sony have greenlit the new network and it'll be the fastest most powerful yada yada!! Sony want to leverage the cloud for its SEN network and gaming/video/music divisions. I'm sure they recently signed a deal with RackSpace or someone. Don't see any point in streaming PS3 games through Gaikai. Does anybody really wanna play older games when the next gen games are out? Maybe the odd occasion once in a blue moon maybe?

The deal with Rackspace is very interesting. No full disclosure if Sony will be using them to host PSN or even Gaikai. Instead the earnings call mentioned that Sony will be paying Rackspace consultants to help them design and deploy OpenStack within Sony private cloud. I am sure there is more to it then that and Sony would need a player like Rackspace in order to deploy Gaikai to enough datacenters to make the magic happen.
