The other Asian markets don't need a ton of systems, to launch in Japan you need at least 500,000 systems for launch ... Sony decided to allocate those systems to the West instead. I can't blame them.
I think the home console concept in Japan is pretty much dying especially as handhelds/cell phones become more and more powerful.
