They just announced it today.   And the fiscal quarter ends in less than 2 weeks meaning it's very likely an up to date shipment projection.

These have been in planning for months now. You think they can just be like, "Well our pre-orders are up let's just produce more" because they can't. They can push out more than expected if need be but just look at Nintendo at the begining of the Wii's life and how they struggled.

Actually, that's what I mean.  The 5 million figure is pretty locked in at the moment and any changes to that would be minor.

 

And worse would be overproducing.  If they assume the huge pre-order figures translates into sustained high sell through and it doesn't, that's a lot of unsold inventory.
