The Wii U can communicate with 3DS systems so I don't see why it would be so hard to just play 3DS games on a TV through the Wii U (not talking about up-scaling graphics). So you use the 3DS touchscreen still but the top screen in on the TV.

I know MH3U works with 3DS systems but not entirely sure how the whole process works. I know you can have local multiplayer on MH3U with someone playing on the Wii U and someone playing on the 3DS.  This should be able to be achieved through the software side now and no hardware needed.  One should be able to play 3DS games without up-scaling for free through their Wii U.

3DS games would look horrible on most people's 1080p HDTV sets though, a 240p image blown up like is going to look horrid.

If Nintendo can manage to get a quick n' easy emulator running on the Wii U that lets it run a specialized 3DS ROM, that would be the ticket. I'd pay $10-$15 (though $15 is pushing it) extra to play Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Kart 7, Bravely Default, etc.  at home on my HDTV in 720p or 1080p.

Could make it like GBA player on GC where the picture isn't the full screen but a smaller box. Wouldn't that help keep the picture semi decent if you kept some sort of dimension instead of full screen?
