Buying a Wii U was an inevitability for me. I had been leaning toward the Basic model anyway because of the price, with a few reservations because of that nice 32-gig cushion on the Deluxe. Dropping the Deluxe to the price of the Basic model does not save me money, so I don't see this as a price drop. But I do feel that this will speed up the process of acquiring my Wii U.

So no, I'm not picking one up immediately on September 20, but the whole package does look more attractive to me now, and I can see myself buying one sooner than I would have before.

I also don't think Nintendo should sell consoles at much of a loss, even if that means losing market share. With their current model of being cheaper with lower system specs, it's better that they carve out their own niche instead of trying to compete directly. I think a lot of Nintendo fans just need to accept that most Nintendo consoles are going to settle closer to N64 numbers than to Wii numbers.

I am okay with this. I like Nintendo's "less power, lower cost" strategy. I wish more third parties were on board with it as well.
