Irrelevant< MS and Sony are huge, they have many other devisions so they can push tech and seel at a loss initially. Nintendo is JUST a gaming company so they have no choice or will go under. |
Naturally not completely irrelevant. Sony and Microsoft also don't make gaming systems for shits and giggles.
They're in it to make money, no matter how big they are. Even more important for Sony, since PlayStation is one of their bigger ventures now. If their gaming efforts aren't making momey, they as a company, or at least that specific division, could just as much be in trouble as Nintendo could. They would definitely not be happy, and neither would shareholders. Of course, one could argue that Sony and Microsoft could tolerate bad performance of a division because they have secondary agenda's (pushing DVD/Blu-ray, penetrating the living-room in this case), which lessen the blow a bit as it's softened by potential better performance of the other divisions because of it.
