I think both jabs in either way were quite amusing :).
MS are at the forefront when it comes to indie development, they had a plan for a long time that they presented when they felt the time was right. They have high demands for Indie games and that is why the indie scene has been most succesful on the XBox platform (X360, PC and soon X1). These kind of jabs are a way to also show appreciation for the competitor, which is what this guy was showing :).

You are actually wrong. MS used to be better, but at the moment Sony is easily at the forefront when it comes to indies and MS is playing catch-up with its ridiculous, developer-unfriendly policies. MS had a plan xD Love it, this sentence is already an industry classic. They had a plan for everything :P But then had to can them all, cause Sony was 10x better and was leaving XO in the dust. MS made a bad bet putting emphasis on TV, while Sony bet on indies. As it turned out, gamers don't care about TV and do care about games (who would have guessed!?) and that MS jab is a desperate attempt to convince gamers that MS is better when it comes to indies than Sony. There is no appreciation, MS feels they are losing their footing and are fighting to get the gamers back. The difference is, Sony jokes and jabs are actually true, while MS jab is pure BS.

So you honestly think they decided on a whim to make every X1 a future dev kit and create id@xbox program? Regarding other things they have done a 180 (DRM and Kinect requirement) but this is something that they have had big plans for all along.
Sony and MS are taking two different approaches to indie delevopment, the difference is that MS has a much larger platform for indies to develop on (including PC) which makes them quite attractive. Being extreme and saying Sony is 10X better isn´t really helping your argument either :).
Regarding the focus on TV implementation and such, it doesn´t really have anything to do with this issue, especially since Sony is investing heavily in that area aswell. MS and Sony are both after your hard earned cash, we will see who is most succesful in doing so, only time will tell.
