This month was a bit weird. For one thing, we had the EXACT SAME number of points as we did last month. So yay for consistency. But that didn't mean nothing changed.
Despite the release of Pikmin 3 in August, the Wii U did not decline. In fact, for the first time ever, it was the Number One platform! I can't actually remember the last time a non PlayStation console was #1, so kudos for it. The Wii U continued to be defined by its exclusives, led by the RPG X, followed by a bunch of old franchises like Smash Bros and Mario Kart that nevertheless scored well. The highest 3rd party Wii U game, Rayman Legends, will be released in a few days, either freeing up more space for other 3rd party games or allowing Nintendo to monopolize their platforms even more.
The PS3 actually outperformed the PS4 this month, despite the Western release of Tales of Xilia. Grand Theft Auto 5, which was in a state of decline around E3, has gotten back up to the #2 spot on the PS3 alone. Beyond: Two Souls, Square Enix's PS2 HD remakes, Gran Turismo 6, and the latest Ratchett and Clank also scored well. Some exclusives, such as Rain and Puppeteer, did less impressively, but the PS3's bevy of strong exclusives led by the multiplatform GTA5 did it well.
The PS4 lost over 40 points month over month, but is still in a decent position. Two of the top five skus are PS4 titles, one of which is exclusive. Although many of the PS4's games are multiplatform, they performed quite well regardless, including Watch Dogs, Metal Gear Solid 5, etc.
The 3DS was the only other platform with at least 100 points, and admittedly it actually grew a bit since last month. However, the fact remains that over half of these points come from Pokemon X/Y, and another 20 or 25% come from Zelda. The platform's future after November is very unclear.
The 360 was dominated by GTA5 this month, which appears to be the system's last title of note in VGChartz's mind. The Xbox One had eleven titles chart, but not a single one had more than a single vote. The PC was a bit better off, with The Witcher 3 seemingly anticipated. The Vita is doing its worst so far all year, with no games with 10+ points.
