1. When Nintendo brings in new studios, it helps elevate their talent. If you think Platinum makes awesome games now, think of how good it would be under Nintendo's watch and with the singular focus of only developing for Nintendo's hardware.
2. Yeah, Platinum's games don't sell, but (1) they usually keep making new IPs aimed at niche markets and (2) their games don't get a ton of marketing as it is. With Nintendo not only would they get more attention from the Nintendo faithful, but they'd likely be put on some projects involving major Nintendo IPs as well, like Star Fox. It's been forever since we've had a legitimate, ass-kicking Star Fox... :(
3. Nintendo needs more studios. Nintendo needs studios with HD experience. Nintendo needs to pump out more games so it won't be so reliant on third parties. Nintendo needs more games appealing to the hardcore demographic Reggie talked about winning back, back in 2011. Platinum can help with all of this.
4. As another poster said earlier, Platinum has made Nintendo-esque games before, so it wouldn't be a new concept. As Clover, it made Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 and Okami (my favorite Zelda game on the Wii). Oh, and a little game called The Wonderful 101. SO it's not like they can ONLY make hard games with mature content.
