I think Kinect was a great idea. Most of the non-hardcore gaming people that came to my house were thoroughly impressed with it, too. Of 70 million Xbox 360 owners, only 20 something million bought Kinect. I don't know what percentage of them were disappointed. Personally, I loved mine and still use it to this day. Kinect was possibly the most successful peripheral of all time. At $150 a pop, 1/4 of Xbox owners snatched it up.
The way I see it, Kinect 2.0 will lure in those gamers that were curious about the hardware and those that could care less STILL have to buy Kinect. Not only that, with 100% of Xbox One owners in possession of Kinect, developers can rest easy knowing that they're selling to 100% of the Xbox One userbase and not just the 20 million or so users that bought it as an add on. That also means that any game they make for PS4 can be ported to the Xbox One BUT not every game they make for Xbox One can be ported to the PS4....unless they want to cater to what will be a small percentage of Eyetoy users.
The PS4 will still win in sales but I think the appeal of Kinect in every box has been underestimated.
