1. cartridges are more expensive then CDs and development was more expensive on cartridges and it took to much time to develop.
2. 3rd parties abondoned nintendo when they saw their games dont sell on Wii as expected the reason is inferior power when compared to other consoles. the same problem we see with Wii U.
talking about what happened 20 years ago is irrelevant. companies try to make money no matter what the case is.
