the original songs are MIDI and Digitized instruments so they're not compressed in any way, FFXI and FFXII used orchestral music while they were on PS2.
One of the reasons why people think FFX was the last FF with great soundtrack because it was the last one that used MIDI music by Nobou, the guy is great in MIDI , however when he moved to real instruments that signature touch kind of faded away.
