Pointint out the the one blunder in their entire gaming history is rather insipid and pointless, don't you think? They dropped the Virtual Boy because it just wasn't a good idea out of the gate. It was a risk they took, and it didn't pay off. Nintendo don't drop systems, the way that Sega did, in succession, with 32X, Saturn, and then Dreamcast. The way Sega handled all of that was shameful. In a perfect world, the two big giants of gaming would still be Nintendo and Sega, with hell, maybe even Atari still being in the console business. But Sega fucked up, and Sony took over. No changning that.
But Nintendo is not now nor ever has been Sega. |
RolStoppable said "1) Nintendo doesn't drop their systems this fast." I only required that one example to disprove his statment.
FYI, the Sega 32x was on the market for about 10-11 months before being discontinued. The Sega Saturn was on the market for about 3 years and 3 month in the US before being dropped (it was 6 year and 1 month in Japan). Finally the Dreamcast was on the market for about 1 year and 6 months in the US (It was 2 years and 4 months in Japan). Numbers from wikipedia..
The Virtualboy was dropped much faster than the 3 Sega home consoles you mentioned, again I only required this one example to disprove your statment "Nintendo don't drop systems, the way that Sega did..." especially when history proves otherwise.
Just to clarify, I am NOT saying the WiiU will be dropped like the Virtualboy my point was to correct the revisionist history some people have when it comes to Nintendo, nothing more nothing less.
