It wasnt power, the GC was the second most powerful console that gen. It was format, space and marketshare. The GC wasn't using a CD it was a special made Minidisc made by Panasonics because Nintendo was paranoid about piracy. Another thing that hurt the GC with gaining marketshare apparently was that the GC had a industrial design error where the Gamecube's design was considered childish when the games were anything but. People based the product based on the design. I actually liked that Nintendo had mature titles on it for once even if most of the games were third party.
