In the past this idea would have been dismissed as an incredibly lame April Fool's joke. The fact that it actually has traction with people in the industry and that Nintendo felt the need to comment on it speaks volumes.

The fact that you interpreted this the way you did speaks volumes about you.

I'm pretty sure SEGA was saying the same things back in 2000 that Nintendo is now... we're not leaving the hardware market, we plan to fully support the Dreamcast, remain calm, all is well etc.
