The Wiimote was familiar but Motion Plus hadn't been used much in a traditional genre.

Motion Plus was just an upgrade to the Wii mote, it didn't supply a "new" experience outside of being better refined. That would be like saying [insert game name] is innovative because it has better graphics than the last.

Can't do Skyward Sword's swordplay with a standard Wiimote though, the precision is on another level. And gameplay is infinitely more important than graphics.

Thinking that a game requiring more precision is innovation is an insult to the great things the series has done in the past. And yes gameplay is more important, but graphics are also a key aspect in gaming.

It's not just more precision; it's the difference between just shaking your hand and the sword accurately following the player's own movements. That's a paradigm shift, beyond anything the series had done since Ocarina.
