Actually, it's more like reporters seem to like asking the obvious.    

Nintendo, or any developer for that matter, rarely just offers up statements without being prompted for it first.

Its odd how angry birds can originate on cell phones, is now getting royalties out the ass from licensing and is second to Nintendo own franchises (in the west) on the 3DS and will top all software in terms of 3rd party titles for the Wii U and 3DS again with angry birds star wars. Seems like a lot of brand expansion on their part.

Angry Birds Trilogy is 47th on the best selling 3DS games list.  

NPD has mentioned multiple times that 3/4 of the sales of the game are on the 3DS and activition mentioned the game passing 1 million months ago, cream sugar from GAF has mentioned multiple times its the best selling 3rd party game, this site has it undertracked
