You put me in charge of Nintendo NOW!? That's like defecating in the cake mix and getting me to finish off the baking for you, when I begged you not to defecate in the cake mix in the first place!
Joking aside, I would definitely take the job, as one year salary would set me up for life.
Here's the plan: Push and expand the multimedia experience offered by the Wii U, make that tablet controller into a real living room buddy. Make people aware that the Wii U is the ultimate party console; With the Wii U, from one interface you can:
Watch movies from the likes of Netflix, Lovefilm and others.
Watch movies you have downloaded onto a hard drive (similar to 360 video player but better with more features and better compatibility).
Download content from Amazon.
Listen to music you have downloaded elsewhere.
Play some fantastic multiplayer games that get everyone laughing and shouting at the screen.
Stream music from sites such as Spotify, Pandora etc.
Watch TV (both through BBC I-player/4OD type sites and possible deals with Sky/Freesat).
E-reader for use on touchscreen gamepad.
Emphasize the fact that it's the ultimate night in, all accessible from one machine, one interface, plug what you want into the usb port, no hassle. This should manage to entice once more, the older, more casual and/or female demographic who did a lot for the Wii sales. As this has Wii in the name, we must go for this market to try and ensure we rectify the massive balls-up there's been thus far.
Obviously, keep pumping out the top quality first party material - that goes without saying, do not neglect the loyal fanbase. Talking of first party, how about a few legendary crossovers i.e Mario Kart Vs F-Zero, Animal Crossing X Pokemon, Metroid RPG: The Future of Hyrule 3015. I know these might sound silly, but play around with the ideas - it could be a chance to try exciting new concepts with the sales-guarantee of familiar IPs.
Try and appease 3rd parties, but if they don't want to work with us, there's not a lot we can do.
Advertise the top first party stuff but also advertise the casual party aspect of the console 50/50. Ramp up the advertising - we really need to hook those casuals again, as they are barely aware of Wii U at present.
Hope for the best, take note of our mistakes and make a more competitively powerful console next time, and ditch the Wii brand.
Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.
Karl Pilkington.
