Also I had to stop reading your post as soon as you said secret files. I don't haves the game yet so trying to avoid spoilers!

I prioritized killing enemies, taking down barriers and building the bridge before I picked up all the stuff. I am not sure if the demo level is identical to the first level in the full game, so maybe it's pointless to talk more about it. Some of the stats I remember: You get 50 Pikmin (red and rock, scattered around the level), there are ten enemies and two piles of treasure.

Hmm, I think you're right that they are different. Only 1 pile of treasure, only 7 enemies, and only 2 groups of 5 Rock pikmin around the level. Guess that would explain that, aswell as make my scores irrelevant. :L
